Town travelled to Yealmpton full of trepidation for a South Hams Triples match on Friday. This green has never been a happy hunting ground for Town and their fears were realised when they saw that the green had not been watered. Yealmpton were more used to these conditions and took a 9-15 lead after 8 ends but then Town became accustomed to the fast rink and started a fightback and eventually ran out winners by 37-26. Therefore Town picked up 4 league points to keep them in pole position in the table
The victory was mainly due to David Thorne’s rink who scored a count of 5 at end 9 and followed up with counts of 4 and 5 in the 2nd half to win 24-12 Conversely, Town’s other rink, led by Eric Fitch was 2-9 down at 7 ends and 8-13 at 14 ends. 5 shots in the next 3 ends brought the scores level 13-all to force a last end decider but despite a valiant effort to move the shot wood by Eric the match was lost by one shot. .
Details:- Ray Lancaster, Colin Baker, David Thorne won 24-12. Keith Baston, Tim Lewis, Eric Fitch lost 13-14.
