After 2 victories last weekend, Town travelled full of hope to Totnes for the 1st leg of the Summers Trophy. In a very closely contested match which went to and fro, Totnes inched the match by just one shot, 52-53 on the very last end. Town therefore have a good chance of reclaiming the trophy at home in the 2nd leg in August.
Town were indebted to the rink manned by Peter Hadley, Tracey Moore and Tony Walters who raced into an 11-1 lead after 7 ends and extended the lead to 15 shots in the 2nd half.
Town’s other 3 rinks were all pipped at the post after tight matches. Eric Fitch’ s rink was 9-6 up after 13 ends but 5 shots by the home side in the next 4 ends gave them a 1 shot win. Keith Baston’s rink dropped a count of 4 on the 7th end to go 6 shots down, 3-9, and despite great efforts in the 2nd half this proved to be the difference. Keith Brayne’s trio was 0-5 down after 4 ends when a run of 6 shots in the next 4 ends gave them the lead but the home side restricted them to just 2 shots in a disappointing 2nd half to win by 9 shots.
