President and Captain’s Day 5 September

Keith BastonSocial Event

Town held their annual President’s and Captain’s day 0n Wednesday. In this event all proceeds go to charity and the worthy recipients were Cancer Research UK. It proved to be a poignant occasion as both President Pierre Verniquet and Captain Keith Baston are standing down after this season. The event commenced with a Spider Competition in which all bowlers form a circle and bowl to a central target. The nearest, after a measure, was Geoff Langridge who won a bottle of wine. The players were then drawn into 3 triples teams and this is where the fun began!  After bowling 4 normal ends the players then played a version of short mat across the green. This was followed by a game of Crown Green bowling where bowls were flying everywhere to great hilarity. Vice- captain David Thorne claimed a victory for his team but this was a matter of great dubiety. The evening ended with a buffet dinner provided by the President and Captain. The club wishes to thank Carole Baston for making the arrangements for the dinner and to Marion Thorne, Heather Fitch, Susan Baker, Sandra Brayne and Sue Allen for helping out with the preparation. A raffle was held with the help of donations from members and the total raised for Cancer Research UK was £167-50. A gallant effort by everyone.
