Town travelled to Marldon on Sunday hoping to continue with their good form. This fixture has been reinstated this season after a gap of 8 years so Town did not really know what to expect. They soon found out as the home side held an 11 shot lead at the break 24-35, but Town dug deep to get back in the game and take the match to the final bowl for an exciting finish.
On Eric Fitch’s rink, scoring was even up to the 11th end, 10-13 but Town then scored 12 shots in the next 4 ends to win by 7 shots. Tim Lewis’s trio had a poor start. 0-7 after 5 ends but scores of 4 and 5 in the 2nd half gave them a 1 shot victory. Conversely, David Thorne’s rink led 8-3 after 7 ends but the home side rallied to score 15 shots in the 2nd half to win by 8 shots. Keith Baston’s squad was last to finish, having pulled back an interval deficit of 5-12 to lead 17-16 with 2 ends to play. The result eventually rested on the very last bowl. The bowls were so close to the jack that the calipers were needed but Town missed out by 2mm. to lose both the rink and the match by 2 shots, 69-71.
