Kingsbridge Town travelled to Lee Moor on Sunday for a Triples match. Several regular players were missing for this match so the opportunity was taken to introduce some members to their first game and they did not let the side down as Town came within a whisker of a remarkable victory. The outlook did not look good at half time as the home side outscored Town by 22 shots, 21-43. They then provided a fine tea and this fortified the visitors to such an extent that the result of the match came down to the final end, with the home side scraping a 2 shot victory by 60-62.

Town’s most successful rink, skipped by David Thorne went against the flow as they opened up a 13-1 lead at the break and a count of 6 on end 11 helped them to coast home by 15 shots. The biggest turnaround occurred on Keith Baston’s rink as Lee Moor led 0-15 after 7 ends but fortunes then changed as the home side only scored one more shot as Town scored 15 in the last 7 ends to win by 19-16. Another remarkable effort took place on Jim Balsdon’s rink as a deficit of 1-11 at 7 ends was pulled back by 5 shots on the last 4 ends to reduce the margin to 4 shots, 12-16. Sadly, Steve Ellis’s trio could not stem the tide as an interval lead of 1-13 was increased to 5-21 at the close.
