Totnes visited Town on Sunday for the 2nd leg of the Summers Trophy between the two clubs. Totnes shaded the 1st leg by just one shot so Town were hopeful of regaining the trophy. This proved to be the case as Town shot out of the gates to open a 13 shot lead at the half way stage, 37-24. The 2nd half was much more even but the shot difference was maintained as the home side won by 71-58 giving an aggregate score of 89-77.
The main reason for the win was Ray Lancaster’s rink who led 17-0 after 8 ends and extended the margin to 23 shots as the visitors were restricted to just 5 shots. On Keith Baston’s rink a deficit of 6 shots after 3 ends was clawed back by the 7th end and a very tight match was won by a count of 2 shots on the final end. Similarly, Eric Fitch’s trio was 2-8 down after 7 ends when a run of 9 shots in 6 ends gave them the lead but the match was won by a single on the final end. On Town’s only losing rink, skipped by Keith Brayne a 6-5 lead was held at 10 ends but counts of 4 and 7 were then dropped to give the visitors their only win.
