Kingsbridge Town hosted Kingsbridge Park and finally managed to win a home match at the 4th attempt – but only just! The match was played with 3 rinks contributing to the South Devon Bowling League and a further rink was played in the Cup Competition between the clubs.
In the league match, Town was 9 shots down at 34-43 after 15 ends but a great effort in the last 5 ends turned the tables with Town winning by 1 shot on the last bowl. The final score in the league match was 46-45 as Town picked up 6 league points to Park’s 2 points. The extra rink added another 3 shots in the Cup as Town won by 63-59.
Eric Fitch’s rink held a healthy 17-2 lead at 11 ends but Park came back to reduce the margin to 10 shots. Keith Baston’s rink was 2-8 down after 7 ends and 8-12 down with 4 to play but a fine finish brought in a further 8 shots to win by 4. Kevin Moore’s trio were always on the back foot as a 10 shot deficit at the break was extended to 13 shots by the visitors. On the extra rink, John Yeabsley’s team won by 3 shots after a closely contested match.
