On Sunday, Town travelled to Plympton to take part in the annual tripartite competition with Plympton and Lee Moor for the Duncombe Trophy. As holders, Town were hoping to retain the trophy but despite a spirited effort they just fell short as Plympton won by just 2 points from Town in an exciting contest that went right down to the wire. The final scores were Plympton 11, Town 9 and Lee Moor 4.
The most successful rink for Town was the Pairs, represented by Ray Lancaster and David Thorne, who won both their matches to gain 4 points. The triples rink of Marion Thorne, Colin Baker and Keith Baston beat Lee Moor but drew with Plympton to win 3 points. The rink of 4 players, Sue Allen, Sandra Brayne, Keith Brayne and Tim Lewis beat Lee Moor but lost to Plympton to gain 2 points. In the singles Eric Fitch lost both matches. This came as a surprise as Eric has been the backbone for Town for many years in this competition but he came across 2 league players who were in very good form.
Overall, this was a very good performance by Town and they hope to reclaim the trophy next season at Lee Moor.
