Town visited Yealmpton on Sunday for the 1st Leg of the Cup Competition between the 2 clubs. The visitors have held the Trophy for the last 4 years so hopes were high but a poor start left Town with a lot to do as Yealmpton cruised into a 14 shot lead, 24-38, at the break. There must have been something in the tea as Town made a remarkable comeback in the 2nd half, reversing the scoreline by 38 shots as they won 79-55.
Keith Baston’s rink was well placed, 11-4 at the break and the score was extended to 25-8 as the home side were restricted to only 5 winning ends. On Eric Fitch’s rink, Town were down 4-9 after 8 ends but the away side then took complete control, scoring 23 shots including a count of 6 as the home side could only muster one more winning end. Roy Krywko was given a tough initiation in his 1st match as skip, 3-12 down at the break but another great fightback took the match to the final end as the difference was reduced to just 2 shots. David Thorne’s rink was down 7-19 at 14 ends but 8 shots in the last 4 ends brought the deficit down to 6.
