Kingsbridge Town played their first mixed match for 20 months on Saturday when they visited Totnes in the 1st Leg of the annual Summers Trophy, hoping to reclaim the Trophy that was won by Totnes in 2019. The weekend did not start well as new captain Keith Brayne had to pull out due to a sore foot, so ex captain Keith Baston took over the reins. Town were pleased to welcome Kevin and Tracey Moore back after a 4 year absence.
Town held their own in the first half to be only 3 shots down but Totnes raised their game in the 2nd half to win by 79 shots to 51, leaving Town to pull back 28 shots in the return match in August.
On Keith Baston’s rink a count of 7 shots on the 6th end gave then an 11-4 lead but the hosts scored 2 counts of three near the end to pip town by a single shot. Similarly, Eric Fitch’s rink was 10-6 up but a run of 5 shots gave the home side the lead which they held for a 3 shot victory. On the rink skipped by Tim Lewis, Town held a lead of 7-0 after 4 end but a similar story enfolded as Totnes won by 7 shots. On Kevin Moore’s rink the scores were level 7-all at 8 ends but the wheels then fell off as the hosts scored a run of 17 shots and this was the final difference.
Details:- Sue Allen, Ray Lancaster, Keith Baston lost 16-17. Bill Rockey, Tracey Moore, Eric Fitch lost 12-15. Steve Ellis, Bill Schirn, Tim Lewis lost 12-19.
Sandra Brayne, Tony Walters, Kevin Moore lost 11-28.
Town will christen their new green on Sunday after months of hard work when Marldon will be the visitors.
