Kingsbridge Town travelled to Totnes on Saturday for the 2nd leg of the Summers Trophy. The match was transferred to Totnes due to the poor state of the green at Eastern Backway. Having lost by only 3 shots in the 1st leg , Town were hopeful of retaining the Trophy for the 5th consecutive year but home advantage played a part as the home side won another tight match by 9 shots, 55-64 . The aggregate score over the 2 legs was 112-124.
Tim Lewis’s rink were Town’s only winners but they had a bad start, 0-6 after 5 ends. Town then scored 14 consecutive shots in the next 8 ends to swing the match in the visitors favour by 17-9. Keith Baston’s trio was 13-8 up after 12 ends but they became stuck on the dreaded 13 as Totnes took the lead by 3 shots. However, 3 shots in the last 2 ends restored parity as the match finished 16-all. Eric Fitch’s rink was just pipped on the post as the home side scored 6 consecutive shots in the 2nd half. David Thorne’s rink came up against a team in great form as they went 0-13 after 7 ends and this proved to be crucial as they lost by 12 shots.
