Town were short of some regular players and this enabled them to select 3 new members, Garth Gregory, Geoff Langridge and Hazel Wills for their 1st match. Town were slow out of the blocks and went into the halftime break with a deficit of 17-40. Although they held their own in the 2nd half, the damage had been done and the home side ran out winners by 45-76.
Town’s only winning rink, skipped by Keith Baston was 5-0 up after 5 ends but the home side pulled back to lead 6-7. The scores were 10-all at 13 ends but 7 shots by Town in the next 3 ends proved decisive as the visitors won by 4 shots. A very tight game was played on David Thorne’s rink as shots were traded evenly throughout the match as it ended in a 13-all draw. The other 2 rinks did not fare so well due to poor starts. Both Eric Fitch’s and Tim Lewis’s rinks were 0-9 after 6 ends and things got worse in the 2nd half, losing by 17 and 18 shots respectively.
