Town entertained Totnes in the 1st leg of the Summers Trophy on Saturday. The home side were short of practice due to the recent wet weather but on a glorious afternoon they won on all four rinks to take a 47 shot lead into the 2nd leg in August, winning by 89 shots to 42.
David Thorne’s rink shot into a 10-0 lead after 7 ends but the visitors pulled it back to 10-10 after 11 ends. This spurred Town into action and counts of 5 and 6 in the 2nd half gave Town a 13 shot victory. Similarly, on Keith Baston’s rink, Town went into an 8-0 lead, but despite losing 5 shots in the next 2 ends they ran out winners as a result of a run of 7 shots in 4 ends with a final score of 22-11. Things were much tighter on Eric Fitch’s rink in the early stages, 9-6 up after 11 ends, but a run of 12 shots in 6 ends gave Town a 13 shot advantage. A similar pattern occurred on Tim Lewis’s rink as the scores were tied 10-10 after 14 ends but 10 unanswered shots in the last 4 ends took the score to 20-10.
