Kingsbridge Town welcomed neighbours Kingsbridge Park to Eastern Backway for a South Hams Triples match last week, knowing that a win could help the home side to retain the title that they have won in the last 2 seasons. A very close match was played with the lead changing hands on several occasions. At half time Town held a slender 2 point lead, 14-12 but the position was reversed by the 16th end as Park held a 3 shot advantage, 25-28 with 2 ends to play. Town had to dig deep but 8 shots were scored to give them a victory by 33-28.
On Keith Baston’s rink, the scores were tied 8-all with John Harding’s trio after 11 ends when a run of 7 shots in the next 3 ends gave them a 15-8 lead but Park fought back to 15-12 with 2 to play. 3 shots in the last 2 ends then gave Town an 18-12 win. On the other rink, skipped by Eric Fitch, Town led 4-1 after 3 ends but Park, led by Richard Kerswell, drew level on the next end and went into a 6-11 lead by end 12. Although Town scored a count of 4 on the next end, Park countered with 5 shots to lead 10-16 with 2 to play . Town then came back with 5 shots but it was not quite enough as Park won by a single shot.
