Kingsbridge Town were due to play Kingsbridge Park at home in the Cup Competition between the 2 neighbours having won the 1st leg at Park by one shot. However, the recent dry period has had an effect on the green at Eastern Backway so Town reluctantly asked if the tie could be played at Park. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike twice and Park won another tight match by 11 shots, 51-62 to win overall by 116-126.
Town’s only successful rink, skipped by Tim Lewis, was level 7-all at the half way mark but a good 2nd half including a count of 4 made the difference as they won by 6 shots. Tony Walters’ trio was involved in another tight game, 10-all at 16 ends, but opposing skip Ron Elson trailed the jack on the last end for a count of 3 to win by 2 shots, 11-13. On Eric Fitch’s rink the scores were level 8-all at 12 ends but 8 shots by Park in the next 3 ends won the match by 6 shots. David Thorne’s rink had a bad start, 6-21 after 14 ends but 2 counts of 3 then brought the deficit down to 9 shots.
