Kingsbridge Town maintained their excellent start to the season with 2 more victories last week
The first match was at local neighbours Kingsbridge Park in the first leg of the Mixed Triples Cup Competition between the sides. Park have held sway in this fixture in recent seasons but the match turned out to be very competitive on all the rinks as Town won by the lowest possible margin 65-64.
Town were indebted to Geoff Bulbulian’s trio, who pulled back a 0-5 deficit to lead 13-7 at the 11th end. Shots were then shared as the away side started the last end needing 3 shots for the match. Only one shot was held until the final bowl as Geoff took the jack back for a count of 3 to give Town the edge. David Thorne’s rink was involved in a very close affair as Town won by one shot. Keith Baston’s rink held a 6-2 lead after 7 ends but a count of 4 was then dropped to bring the scores level but they just missed out, losing by 3 shots. A tight match also ensued on Ray Lancaster’s rink as a14-13 lead was held at end 15. Park then scored 7 shots to lead 14-20 but importantly, Town scored one on the last end.
Details:- Sandra Brayne, Colin Baker, Geoff Bulbulian won 21-13. Marion Thorne, Tony Walters, David Thorne won 18-17. Julie Hadley, Steve Ellis, Keith Baston lost 11-14. Sue Allen, Keith Brayne, Ray Lancaster lost 15-20.
