Town’s inexperience on artificial surfaces was again showed up when they travelled to Ipplepen on Saturday in the South Devon Mixed Bowling League. This was a new venue for Town and they were caught cold as the home side ran up a 14-39 advantage by the break and it got worse in the 2nd half as they lost by 26-97. This follows another loss on Kingsteignton’s carpet and they have yet to record a league point.
Keith Baston’s rink was 7-14 down after 12 ends but a count of 7 on the next end brought the scores level at 14-all. The prospect looked good as they held 3 shots on the next end, only to be thwarted by the home skip with the last bowl. 2 tight ends followed but the loss of a count of 5 on the penultimate end sealed a 10 shot win for the home side.
On Keith Brayne’s rink early losses of 2-15 were eased as a count of 4 brought the scores to 7-15 but the home side then took control to win 7-33.
A similar story unfolded on Eric Fitch’s rink as Town could only muster 5 singles to complete a disastrous afternoon.
Details:- Sue Allen, Peter Handford, Keith Baston 14-24. Tracey Moore, Ray Lancaster, Keith Brayne 7-33. Tony Walters, Sandra Brayne, Eric Fitch 5-40.
Town’s next 3 matches in the league are on grass so they will be looking for a vast improvement.
